FUEL TAXES MAKE A SIGNIFICANT CONTRIBUTION TO MEMBER STATE NATIONAL INCOME

Taxes on fuels contribute on average to some 6% of Member State tax revenue in 2018. This significant contribution to Member State revenue has to be put in perspective with the subsidies given to many competing alternatives to oil. This demonstrates that replacing petroleum products by these alternatives would have severe consequences for Member States’ income.
