Liquid fuels in the bio-economy

03/06/2021 - 03/06/2021 in FuelsEurope event

The Bioeconomy Council defines the bioeconomy as “the knowledge-based production and use of biological resources to provide products, processes and services in all economic sectors within the frame of a sustainable economic system.”

The bioeconomy is a shift from a fossil fuel based economy to a bio-based economy, a new model for industry, transport and other sectors. It involves using renewable biological resources sustainably to produce food, energy and industrial goods. It also exploits the untapped potential stored within millions of tons of biological waste and residual materials.

How does the production of liquid fuels integrate in this evolution? Are there any risks of competition for access to the feedstock and raw materials? Is this the emergence of a more local and regional supply chains? What impact on trade and on security of supply?
