Fuel suppliers deliver! First ReFuelEU Aviation SAF target met and exceeded
The first year of ReFuelEU Aviation has delivered tangible results, with new data published today by EASA confirming that fuel suppliers exceeded the Regulation's initial Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) target.
According to EASA, SAF accounted for 2.8% of aviation fuel supplied at EU airports in 2025, exceeding the 2% target applicable from January 2025. SAF was supplied at 121 airports across the European Union, representing 79% of all Union airports, a strong indication that the sector is already well on its way towards meeting the requirement for SAF availability at all Union airports by 2035. The use of SAF also delivered greenhouse gas emissions savings of approximately 3.77 million tonnes of CO₂e compared with conventional jet fuel.
These results demonstrate the ability of European fuel manufacturing and supply industry to deliver ambitious climate objectives when supported by a stable and predictable regulatory framework. They also show that the ReFuelEU Aviation Regulation is already translating policy ambition into tangible emissions reductions and investment across the fuel value chain.
Today's confirmation by EASA shows that ReFuelEU Aviation works and our sector is delivering. As we look ahead, maintaining regulatory certainty will be essential to sustain this momentum – including planned investments – and support Europe's decarbonisation ambitions.
The findings also support FuelsEurope's longstanding assessment that the sector is on track to meet future ReFuelEU Aviation requirements. With additional EU SAF production capacity expected to come online before 2030, the industry remains well positioned to deliver the volumes needed, provided the necessary investment conditions remain in place.
